A melting pot of aspiration, love and art, UNTITLED, is a must-see for the innovative-minded movie-goer.
Our protagonist is the seemingly despondent avant-garde musician, Adrian Jacobs (Adam Goldberg) who struggles to be understood by others as a virtuoso composer. The story follows he and his brother on their journey to reach their ultimate goals: Adrian, to be a famous composer and Josh (Eion Bailey), to be a renowned visual artiste.
Directed by Jonathan Parker, the film stars Adam Goldberg, Marley Shelton, Eion Bailey and Vinnie Jones.
If I were to actually name the film, even though the writers decided to christen it by the absence of a title, I would dub it Noise and Artistry.
Josh, the artist - interestingly enough - creates paintings that get hung in corporate lobbies and corner offices that look one in the same.
Adrian's audience, however, is not as receptive.
After a fruitless show starring Adrian and his band, "The New Sound Ensemble, " (Lucy Punch and Michael Paynes) the differentiation between music and noise has to be made. Adrian, a purist, calls his music the very highest form of art, but everyone else around hears noise. Except Madeleine Gray (Shelton).
Madeline, the gorgeous owner of a trendy New York gallery, enjoys the attention-grabbing sound of can-kicking, piano-slamming and piercing screams.
After inviting Adrian to her gallery to perform, Madeleine later extends an invitation for Adrian to attend a party at her place, where they are the only two present.
Boy meets girl and they fall in love…What a great story!
There's only one problem. Josh and Madeline become the victim of a likely, yet somewhat unlikely love triangle. Once the secret is out, the film takes on a different direction.
In short, UNTITLED presents artistic culture in a satirical manner while making pure, loud noise.
UNITITLED opens on November 13 exclusively at Regal Cinemas South Beach.
