Music Rocks Ya Soul hopes to win the $25,000 grant to combat misogyny and violence in popular music. Music Rocks Ya Soul is a campaign fronted by Inspiring Through The Arts, a South Florida organization dedicated to cultivating a new breed of artists in South Florida through mentorship, workshops and experiential learning for the prime objective of public service and intercultural communication.Campaign partners tirelessly committed to the cause are Soul Movement Crew, MyKindofEvents.com and NEWD Magazine.

"Music has such a beautiful way of helping artists express the way they feel through words and/or instruments. It also has the power to influence or alter the emotions of the person or group listening," said Yannick Brackenridge-Jackson, founder of Music Rocks Ya Soul. "The purpose of our campaign is to challenge artists to think beyond sex, drugs, and violence... and create music that would motivate listeners to make a positive impact in their world."

THE BIG IDEA!

  • The Issue
As avid consumers of music and digital media, urban youth get barraged daily by mass media with messages that are demeaning and violent. Music Rocks Ya Soul is the solution. We are an interactive positive music campaign dedicated to the fight against misogyny and violence in popular music (hip hop, reggae, rock and r&b) while promoting dialogue, social action, eclectic music appreciation and creation within communities around the world.

  • The Accolades

Music Rocks Ya Soul has touched over 500,000 young people through our concerts, community rallies and workshops in the last 5 years. We have hosted events in Florida, New York, Texas, and Pennsylvania. In 2008, our campaign was featured in The Miami Herald for its dedication to mobilizing youth to create and support music with clean lyrics and pro-social messages. In October 2009, our campaign workshops were picked up by the Miami-Dade Libraries and sponsored by the Miami Dolphins Foundation.

  • The Plan
Music Rocks Ya Soul will deliver a hot, interactive website and mobile app with dynamic tools to highlight fab artists who fit the positive music standard; a summer concert featuring mainstream acts alongside great, local positive music talent with a min. of 3,000 people in attendance; and free community workshops that will rally, empower and highlight young musical artists to "write, rhyme and inspire."
