Casey Anthony Acquitted for Murder
July 8, 2011By Alicia Ramsay

On July 5, after 11 hours of deliberation, Florida native Casey Anthony was acquitted of all charges for the murder of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Marie whose remains were found near the family's home in 2008. Anthony was, however, found guilty of providing false information to authorities.

U.S and international spectators were in disbelief as many assumed Anthony would be given the death sentence or life in prison.

Jurors claimed that they lacked sufficient evidence to charge the now 25-year-old for the death of her daughter, whose body was so badly decomposed that it was unidentifiable.

"If you're going to charge someone with murder, don't you have to know how they killed someone or why they might have killed someone?" said juror Jennifer Ford in an interview with ABC news reporter Terry Morgan. "Where, when, why, how? Those are important questions, they were not answered."

Protestors rallied outside the Orange County Courthouse in Orlando, Fla. after Anthony's acquittal. She has received several death threats, according to her lawyers.

In 2008, Anthony told conflicting stories after she failed to report her daughter who had been missing for 31 days. Her spiral of lies resulted in a search for the 2-year-old from July to December.

Prosecutors argued that Anthony committed the crime so she could spend more time with her boyfriend, go clubbing and live the "bella vita" or beautiful life which she tattooed on herself during Caylee's disappearance.

Anthony was fined $1,000 for each of her four counts of lying: for claiming that her daughter had disappeared, that she was employed at Universal Studios, that she had a babysitter who kidnapped Caylee and, lastly, that she had spoken telephonically to her daughter.

Casey Anthony was sentenced to four years in jail by Judge Belvin Perry Jr. and is being given credit for the three years she has already served with good behavior.

"I think there are still plenty of things that Casey can do in life and I think Casey can be a productive member of society,"said Anthony's lawyer, Jose Baez, in an interview with Barbara Walters on ABC news on July 6.

According to Baez, Anthony will be released from jail Wednesday, July 13.
