Just Thinking: Can I love you in your mess?
July 12, 2011By V. Knowles

There's an old saying: "A new broom sweeps clean but the old broom is familiar with corners and knows where the dirt lies."

Life has sudden and unexpected turns; so be careful and prudent how you walk and talk the talk.

Consider the story of a musician in Miami, Florida. He had achieved a certain level of success with his band. He was married, but as is usually the case, with a certain level of fame and notoriety, sin and error lay near the door. He cast his eyes upon one of the ladies in the band and after a while he struts home and tells the wife of his youth in a pompous and arrogant manner, "Baby we are not kicking it anymore. I am just not feeling it. I am sorry I have outgrown you."

He packed his suitcase, but one day before he is planning to leave he has a stroke. The new girlfriend, upon seeing his condition, promptly declares, "I am not dealing with this." She disappears.

The one whose heart he had broken, spurned and had outgrown takes him back.

Some people who don't understand ask her a very pertinent question. Why? He has no use.

Well, in a nutshell this is the essence of Christianity. The devil accuses us daily by declaring unto God: "They have no use." But Jesus always replies, "I love them."

So when the deformed hands of that musician grips the cold handlebars of his wheelchair and gazes into the eyes of his loving wife, nobody has to explain the meaning of salvation, redemption, forgiveness restoration and grace. He sees it daily. He knows. He understands.

The stone that the builder has rejected has become the head of the corner. They shall look upon the one they have pierced.

This analogy was genius. For some reason it helped me understand God's love for me just little bit better. Thank you so much for this! :)
So true.

Thanks for sharing! This is quite inspirational and reminds me not to think I'm worthless even when others: parents, friends and strangers present the notion that I am. I love the patience and tolerance of the wife mentioned, what she did does not happen often. In some ways her story reminds me of Tyler Perry's Diary of a Mad Black Woman, but there are many stories like this that I'm sure occurs in reality.
