Meditative Musings: Contentment in your Season
June 26, 2013By Shari Grant

I absolutely love warm weather. Miami winters that dip as low as the 50 degrees (yes, that’s freezing for us!) are not my cup of tea, so on June 21st , the first day of summer, I was most definitely looking forward to it. There have been many rainy days where I daydreamed about it getting warm enough to lay on the beach. Days where I just wished for something different, for a change. Every season has its pros and cons, highs and lows.

I guess that’s just a microcosm of life, huh? There have been so many moments in my life where I longed for something more, something I thought was on the other side of where I presently stood. Sometimes we want so badly to rush through the spot we’re in because we have convinced ourselves that we are ready for something new and need it immediately. We have to discipline ourselves to be content with the place where the Lord has us in this present moment. With every season comes lessons to be learned and experiences to be had.

Every season has tremendous potential for growth - spiritually, mentally and emotionally. I think it’s our responsibility to use our time in each "spot” in life to become better and wiser. It’s not an easy task, but an essential one. Not just for our own peace and sense of well-being, but for the sake of our relationships with Christ. How can we give Him our lives if we are captivated by discontentment? Now I’m not saying that we shouldn’t plan for the future or look forward to new experiences. But don’t spend so much time looking for what you don’t have, that you can’t enjoy where you are.

"There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven.”

Ecclesiastes 3:1 NASB

"But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

Matthew 6:33

"…for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content…” Philippians 4:11

Despite the frigid winters of South Florida, a 90-degree-day is just around the corner. One of the few things we can be sure of in life is its unpredictability. And whether or not we see what we want to see on the horizon, this season you are in is far from permanent. We should challenge ourselves and one another to make the most of this moment.
